Diabetes & Homeopathy

Diabetes is a complex group of symptoms and signs resulting in high blood glucose, also called high blood sugar or hyperglycemia.
Diabetes is a disorder or malfunction of metabolism where the absorbed food especially glucose part is not utilized for energy by the cellular components of the body.
In normal human beings, the food particles are converted into different components for absorption by cells all over the body. Insulin hormone helps the cells to absorb the same from blood stream. The entire process is termed as metabolism.
In Diabetes whether type I or II or any either Insulin hormone is produced less or not being utilized properly by the cells resulting in High Blood Glucose levels.

Types:
1. Type I or Insulin dependent Diabetes
2. Type II or Non-insulin dependent Diabetes OR Diabetes Mellitus
3. Gestational Diabetes
4. Juvenile diabetes- a sub type in Type I

Type 1 diabetes:
Type 1 diabetes is caused by a lack of insulin due to the destruction of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas. In type 1 diabetes—an autoimmune disease—the body’s immune system attacks and destroys the beta cells.
Type 1 diabetes typically occurs in children and young adults, though it can appear at any age. In the past, type 1 diabetes was called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.

Causes for Type 1 Diabetes:
1. Genetic Susceptibility.
2. Auto Immune destruction of Beta cells.
3. Environmental factors conjoined with faulty lifestyle
4. Viruses and infections
5. Reduced intake of mother’s milk during infancy

Type 2 diabetes:
Type 2 diabetes—the most common form of diabetes—is caused by a combination of factors, including insulin resistance, a condition in which the body’s muscle, fat, and liver cells do not use insulin effectively.
Type 2 diabetes develops most often in middle-aged and older people who are also overweight or obese. The disease, once rare in youth, is becoming more common in overweight and obese children and adolescents.

Causes for Type 2 Diabetes:
1. Genetic susceptibility
2. Obesity and physical inactivity
3. Insulin resistance
4. Abnormal production of glucose by the liver

Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes:

People who develop type 2 diabetes are more likely to have the following characteristics:

  • Age 45 or older
  • Overweight or obese
  • Physically inactive
  • Parent or sibling with diabetes
  • Family background history of giving birth to a baby weighing more than 9 pounds
  • History of gestational diabetes
  • High blood pressure—140/90 or above—or being treated for high blood pressure
  • High-density lipoprotein (HDL), or good, cholesterol below 35 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), or a triglyceride level above 250 mg/dL
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome, also called PCOS
  • Prediabetes an A1C level of 5.7 to 6.4 percent; a fasting plasma glucose test result of 100–125 mg/dL, called impaired fasting glucose; or a 2-hour oral glucose tolerance test result of 140–199, called impaired glucose tolerance
  • History of Cardio-Vascular Disease.

Gestational Diabetes:
Diabetes in pregnancy is caused by the hormonal changes and metabolic demands of pregnancy together with genetic and environmental factors.
Symptoms:Symptoms vary from person to person and type to type. Common symptoms and complications of diabetes:

  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Poly myalgia or poly arthalgia
  • Giddiness
  • Urinating often
  • Feeling very thirsty
  • Feeling very hungry - even though you are eating
  • Blurry vision
  • Hairfall
  • Skin infections and pigmentation
  • Gum and tooth infections
  • Backache
  • Constipation or diarhhoea
  • Gastric problems
  • Cuts/bruises that are slow to heal
  • Weight loss - even though you are eating more (type 1)
  • Tingling, pain, burning sensation or numbness in the hands/feet (type 2)

Diagnostic tests:
Depending on the available signs and symptoms, diagnostic tests are suggested by the clinician. FBS, PLBS, GTT, HbA1C, CUE are a few otherwise complications demand more interventional studies.

Homeopathy Treatment:
Diabetes, irrespective of the cause is treated as a whole in Homeopathy. The raised sugar values are not dissolved or neutralized but the basic mal-absorption is aimed to be made normal by the Right Homeopathic Medications conditionally. Timely investigations stand for guidance in Homeopathic treatment. Healthy life style and removal of maintaining and exciting factors do play a role in Homeopathic treatment.
